Upward Initiative 2012 Tourism and Professional Development Conference

Gaslight Media Vice President, Jodie Bissonette, presented two workshop sessions at the Upward Initiative 2012 Tourism and Professional Development Conference held at the Island Resort & Casino in Escanaba on May 30. The UPWard Initiative tourism group is made up of volunteers from both the private and public sector, and they planned this event for everyone in the U.P. and Northern Wisconsin. The session included the 'Fundamental Design Rules' of a successful Web site development and best practices in reaching a targeted audience.
Lending her experience and expertise in the areas of tourism and Internet technology, Jodie focused on the basic outline for developing a Web site including developing an information architecture and wire frame, graphic design and usability, search engine optimization techniques, Web 2.0 tools, such as Facebook, Pinterest, QR Codes and Twitter.
“I was honored that I was asked to make this presentation.” notes Jodie. “The Upper Peninsula Economic Development Alliance (UPEDA) is a non-profit economic development organization whose mission is to enhance, link and promote the unique aspects of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I was glad to share our knowledge and experience in highlighting the fundamentals of the Web to the travel and tourism industry.”
